Ourika Valley Day Trip from Marrakech
Group size
Your private Chefchaouen day trip begins with an early morning pickup from your accommodation in Fes, usually around 7:00 AM. Your professional driver will take you north toward the Rif Mountains in a comfortable, air-conditioned private vehicle.
The journey takes approximately 3.5 to 4 hours, passing through beautiful Moroccan countryside, traditional villages, rolling hills, and mountain landscapes. Along the way, you can enjoy short stops for photographs, refreshments, or panoramic views of the surrounding scenery.
Upon arrival in Chefchaouen, usually around 11:00 AM, you will discover one of Morocco's most picturesque destinations. The city is famous for its blue-painted houses, narrow streets, traditional architecture, and peaceful mountain atmosphere.
You will have free time to explore the historic medina at your own pace. Walk through its beautiful blue streets, discover small traditional shops, and admire the colorful doors, stairways, and decorative details that make Chefchaouen unique.
Continue toward Uta el-Hammam Square, the heart of the old medina. This lively square is surrounded by cafés, restaurants, and historic buildings, including the Kasbah. You can admire the fortress from outside or choose to visit its museum and gardens for an additional entrance fee.
At lunchtime, you can enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal at a local restaurant. Many restaurants offer rooftop terraces overlooking the medina and surrounding Rif Mountains, providing a relaxing setting for lunch.
After lunch, continue exploring the blue city with a visit to Ras El Ma, a natural spring located near the eastern side of the medina. This peaceful area is known for its flowing water, mountain surroundings, and traditional local atmosphere.
You will then have additional free time to walk through the medina, take photographs, or shop for traditional Moroccan handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs.
If time permits, you can also enjoy views toward the Spanish Mosque, located on a hillside overlooking Chefchaouen. Reaching the mosque viewpoint requires an uphill walk, so this optional visit depends on your available time and preferences.
In the late afternoon, usually around 4:00 PM, you will meet your private driver for the return journey to Fes. Arrival at your accommodation is generally around 8:00 PM, depending on traffic and road conditions.
Distance: Approximately 200 km each way.
Driving time: Approximately 3.5–4 hours each way.
The journey from Fes to Chefchaouen is relatively long, so an early departure is recommended to maximize your time in the Blue City.
Wear comfortable walking shoes because Chefchaouen’s medina has narrow cobblestone streets, slopes, and steps. Some areas can become slippery during rainy weather.
Bring Moroccan dirhams for restaurants, cafés, shopping, and entrance fees. Many small businesses in the medina prefer cash payments.
Spring and autumn are excellent seasons to visit Chefchaouen because temperatures are generally pleasant. Winter can be cold and rainy, while summer afternoons can be warm.
Bring a camera or smartphone to capture the city’s famous blue-painted streets, colorful doors, and mountain scenery. Respect local residents and ask permission before photographing people.
The Spanish Mosque viewpoint requires an uphill walk and may not fit comfortably into every day trip schedule. Since this is a private excursion, you can adjust your sightseeing priorities.
